Kratom has been used as an herbal remedy for hundreds of years by people in countries where it grows wild in the Southeast Asia jungles. Eventually, the Kratom tree was studied by Dutch botanist, Pieter Willem Korthals, who gave Kratom its scientific name: Mitragyna speciosa.
